“Merica!” deals with the theme of Piedmontese migration, especially that of the early twentieth century to North America and, even more, to South America.
At the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, going to America meant emigrating abroad, wherever there was work and the possibility of making a fortune.
Over time, the word “Merica” has served above all to indicate Argentina.
Merica today means memory of the roots, an epic of the poverty – complex and ramified – of the Piedmontese civilization that was forced into an involuntary exile.
Voices that speak of comings and goings, of dreams and roots, of rare victories and repeated defeats.
