A bridge of emotions that crosses the ocean, connecting Colonia Valdense, in Uruguay, to Val Pellice, in Piedmont. This is the story of Claudio Costabel, who in recent months turned to Italea Piemonte to make his dream come true: to visit the places from which his family left a long time ago. A journey into the heart of its origins, which the Italea Piemonte team had the pleasure of orchestrating and accompanying at every stage.
Thanks to the support of Italea Piemonte, Claudio’s journey turned into a deep dive into Waldensian history and culture. Together with Davide Rosso, director of the Waldensian Cultural Center Foundation, a partner in our project, we guided Claudio to discover the most significant places in the valley. The visit to the Waldensian Museum of Torre Pellice was one of the most touching stops, a moment in which the past re-emerged strongly.
It was there that, in front of the painting “The spinner”, Claudio was moved. He told us how that painting reminded him of his grandmother who, emigrating from Italy, had brought with her the tools to spin wool, a vivid image of her childhood. It was the testimony of how a well-organized experience, thanks to the support of Italea Piemonte, can transform a simple visit into a moment of deep personal and family connection.
This trip has not only enriched Claudio’s personal story, but has also laid the foundations for important future collaborations. The meeting promoted new cooperation projects between the Asociacion Familia Piamontesa of the Department of Cologne and the twinned municipality of Luserna San Giovanni, further strengthening the ties between Piedmont and its communities abroad.
Claudio’s story is the perfect example of how Italea Piemonte can transform the desire to know one’s origins into an unforgettable and structured experience. If you dream of embarking on a similar journey, our team is here to support you every step of the way, from finding your roots to discovering the rich history and culture of our territory.
