The experience
On the evening of October 12, 1848, after finishing work, a shoemaker, a gilder, four carpenters, two tailors, a foreman, a decorator, and a mechanic gathered in the White Horse Inn in Pinerolo to establish the first Italian Mutual Aid Society.
Their story is surely similar to that of many men and women who left for other countries and were often accompanied on their journey and in their new life by the solidarity of the Mutual Aid Society.
Entering the Museum – now housed in the building purchased at the end of the 19th century by the General Association of Workers of Pinerolo to carry out its social activities – you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere and stories of those times, of those men and women. Beginning and ending the meeting with a handshake, the quintessential symbol of Mutual Aid and solidarity.
