The experience
Barbera, Bonarda, Freisa, Dolcetto: these are the main wines produced by small and carefully tended companies in the hilly and mountainous area of Pinerolo. In the 13th century, the Savoy Acaja princes owned vineyards here, and in the 19th century, there were more than 600 grape varieties counted. Accompanied by a guide along a stretch of the ScopriCollina route, you will encounter this world and learn about traditional wine-making techniques, now also focused on sustainability, and listen to stories and legends related to wine and its culture. You will be welcomed at a farm, stroll through the rows and along a section of the ScopriCollina loop trail, listening to and chatting with the guide about agricultural traditions, the history that saw this territory being French for over 100 years, and the ancient legends that accompany these places. The Pinerolo area has a long tradition of wine production, which in the 19th century experienced a setback due to the arrival of diseases and industrialization, which drew many farmers to work in the new factories in Turin. In recent decades, many young winemakers have resumed the cultivation of old vineyards and are planting new ones, bringing production back to high-quality levels. Here you will discover the types of grape varieties cultivated, cultivation methods, and you can visit a cellar and taste the local wine production along with other typical products.
