the traditional fair (now in its 33rd edition) which enhances peasant cultivation and handicraft and agri-food products, as well as typical dishes of the peasant tradition. Therefore: the “traditional” program, which includes shows and musical intervention by the local Music Band (which recently celebrated the century of foundation), and a large market fair, with the participation of local farms with the support of the Pro Loco montanarese and local associations and restaurants for the preparation of typical traditional dishes (fatty beans, polenta and cod, potato salami, etc…), will be expanded with the exhibition “Montanaro Vintage”, an archive that collects photographs in the last century, with testimonies of peasant life and traditions of the village of Montanaro. The photographic research was accompanied by the reconstruction of the data of entire families and the conditions of public places and private homes that no longer exist. It is therefore a fundamental tool to allow Italian-descendants to reconstruct their family history and deepen their knowledge of their culture of origin. A public presentation with evening-events of the Radici project and the “Montanaro Vintage Radici” exhibition is planned, placing it in the renovated Multimedia Hall of Ca’ Mescarlin. The cultural component of the special edition “delle Radici” will be the opening of the “Giovanni Cena” Museum and in the new Study Center, which contains physical testimony of the cultural heritage of Montanaro of the late ‘800 and early ‘900 (the period of greatest emigration): it is, for the former, to celebrate and tell the life of the writer and philanthropist Giovanni Cena and for the latter to show the story of the Senator and Mayor of Turin Count Frola, with an exhibition of paintings and furnishings from his Castle. The Castle, owned by the Municipality of Montanaro, will itself be open to visitors (adaptation works permitting), as will the permanent exhibition of the mineral collection of the Mineralogical Group of the Basso Canavese, of considerable value and size. Another expression of the tradition will be the exhibition of “Charity”, a form of popular devotion: these are light wicker pyramids about one meter high, covered with white silk and covered with many multicolored fake flowers. This tradition was born around 1500 and its terminology derives from Greek and means “grace”. It originates from organized companies of “dear” young people, with Christian ideals, including the welcome of foreigners. Finally, to enhance the production activities, the inclusion of a space is being realized to better promote two local productions: walnuts and potato salami, which will be added to the typical artisan production, that of the Canestrelli di Montanaro, already included in the Products of the Basket of the province of Turin and recently included, with the related Festival, in the new project of the Piedmont Region “Fieramente in Piemonte, small festivals great products”.
