Valle Grana and Castelmagno PDO

The experience

Welcome in the morning in Monterosso Grana and transfer to visit a dairy producing Castelmagno DOP cheese with tasting.
Then move to Castelmagno for a visit to the Sanctuary dedicated to the cult of San Magno, built in the fifteenth century on a Roman plan, at 1760 meters. The complex includes an eighteenth-nineteenth-century part and an older one, in the latter you can admire the fifteenth-century frescoes by Pietro da Saluzzo.

Lunch with km0 products.

In the afternoon, transfer to San Pietro di Monterosso Grana and visit to the Terra del Castelmagno Museum and walk in the Timeless Village, inhabited by the babaciu, life-size puppets in hay and wood able to tell and tell themselves to visitors through Gino’s Stick.

Throughout the day you will be accompanied by specialized ecomuseum staff.

Castelmagno PDO cheese: Castelmagno cheese is produced in Valle Grana, in the province of Cuneo, exclusively in the municipalities of Monterosso Grana, Pradleves and Castelmagno. It has very ancient origins: the first document attesting to its existence dates back to 1277 attributed to the Marquis of Saluzzo, although it seems that it had even reached the table of Charlemagne.

Since 1996 it has obtained the recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin (D.O.P.).

Castelmagno is recognizable by its marking: a round shape in which a segment with the profile of a mountain on it is missing. There are two types: Castelmagno “Product of the Mountain” (blue label) produced all year round and Castelmagno “Product of Alpine pasture psf” (green label).
