The mayor of Omegna, Daniele Berio, welcomed the couple Stella Maris and Carlo Gustavo Omegna from the Argentinian city of Rosario to the town hall, together with almost the entire city council.

Stella and Carlo, a commercialist and a university professor of economics and finance, returned to Omegna after 27 years since their first visit and at the end of a trip to Europe. “Returning to Omegna – said Carlo – was wonderful: I found a city that has changed compared to 27 years ago, even more beautiful and welcoming”.

Thanks to a WhatsApp group and social media, they managed to find about sixty people who, all over the world, bear the surname Omegna. “There are some Argentinians, but mostly Chileans: our goal is to find the common branch. I had great-grandparents from the province of Cuneo, but we still haven’t been able to figure out how we came to have the surname Omegna”.

Councillor Franco Gemelli recalled how the association Omegna nel Mondo was recently founded, with Andrea Calderoni as president, and how the twinning with the French city of Pornic in the Loire-Atlantique department is being finalized. “It would be nice – said Gemelli – to think about a twinning with Rosario as well”.
