A small town in the Langhe, a castle on top of a hill, vineyards all around, a season full of unmissable events. This is Roddi, the town of wine and poetry, hazelnut and history. From April to September, Roddi is waiting for you to introduce you to its beauties and traditions, straddling past and present, unveiled and told for tourists and for those who return to their country of origin for the first time to rediscover their roots.
The season begins with the possibility of combining culture and food and wine with Vinum a Tavola, dinners by great chefs within the prestigious setting of our Castle, from April 29th to May 5th. From May 1st, the Castle reopens its doors to guided tours: thanks to the collaboration with the Barolo and Castle Foundation it will be possible to cross the door of the manor that stands, imposing, on the top of the hill on which our small village lies. Already owned, in the sixteenth century, by Gaio Francesco della Mirandola, grandson of the great philosopher and humanist Pico, the Castle, tall and massive, is a significant example of medieval fortified architecture. Inside, every weekend, it will be possible to discover rooms enriched with decorations and wooden coffered ceilings, dating back to the fifteenth century, and a precious testimony: the historic kitchens of the castle, dating back to the following century.
Summer brings our country to tell its story in the best possible way and to remember its roots and centuries-old traditions, with the patronal feast dedicated to the Assumption, during which, between dinners, dances in the square and walks, unmissable events will be the Golden Hazelnut Competition and, on September 1st, the award ceremony of the XXIV National Poetry Competition “Roddi Prize”.
With the Golden Hazelnut Competition, the municipality of Roddi wants to celebrate one of its most traditional and iconic products, the basis for the preparation of excellent desserts and whose quality, in the Langhe, reaches the highest level.
Finally, the Roddi Prize wants to end the summer season in the name of literature and poetry, declined in the different forms that this can take: in Italian, in the Piedmontese language and in the minority languages of Piedmont, made up of adults, teenagers and school children. This is also a way to remember ourselves and remember our roots by looking to the future without forgetting the past.
