The project is developed in several directions, with various activities and events that occupy most of 2024 and culminate in the “two days” of the “Festa del Borgo” event, entirely revisited and dedicated to roots tourism.
To get there, several intermediate steps are required:
Recovery, conservation and enhancement of the “Roots”; Involvement of the descendants of the first emigrants in the recovery of memories; Participation of the descendants of emigrants and the “Montechiaresi returning”; Creation of moments of contact and comparison between experiences
The “highlight” of the project will be a renewed “Festa del Borgo”, an event that involves all the local associations (Pro Loco of Montechiaro and 6 other municipalities, A.N.A. Group, Polisportiva, Ancient Crafts Group, etc.) and combines culture with popular participation.
The event is divided into two days and located in the most interesting and particular points of the ancient village in order to fully enhance the historical and architectural beauties of the historic center, with food stands, concerts, ethnographic groups, ancient crafts, amalgamating history, folklore and culture.
Alongside the part dedicated to this “festival of roots”, the work already started over 10 years ago by the cultural group “The custodians of time” is completed with the opening of a small “corner of the memories of emigration” within the existing Museum of Peasant Civilization, located in the former church of Santa Caterina.
Many members of Montechiaresi families in Uruguay and Argentina (Baratta, Bacino, Moizo, Cazzuli, etc.) with whom direct contact is very much alive are actively working on this part of the project.
Some descendants of Montechiaresi who emigrated to South America occupy prestigious roles in their countries (Ana Maria Poggi Moizo is an appreciated sculptor and wine producer, Italo Russi is a senator, Bacino Sergio was president of the Piedmontese Family of Mar del Plata etc.) and constitute a very important added value for this project, also in anticipation of a trip of a Montechiarese delegation to Montevideo and a “return” trip of a group of descendants to Montevideo. Montechiaro d’Acqui, for which the necessary economic facilities are being organized.
